Strengthening local flood resilience through technology and capacity building.

AlirCita is a youth-led initiative developing a community-based approach to flood resilience.

The challenge

  • Scattered flood information

Flood data sits across different sources, so it is hard to see how conditions are changing.

  • Few chances to build skills

Local youth need practical ways to learn community flood monitoring.

Where AlirCita comes in

We combine technology and capacity building to strengthen local flood resilience, connecting better access to flood information with people who are prepared to use it.

TechnologyCapacity buildingCommunity action

Turning flood information into community action.

AlirCita strengthens local flood resilience through two connected components.

Technology

ALERA-FI

Technology for integrated flood monitoring.

Brings fragmented flood-related information together into one operational platform.

Capacity building

Flood Preparedness Workshop

Building local capacity for flood preparedness.

Equips local youth with flood preparedness knowledge and hands-on flood monitoring skills to support their communities.

Community action

Together, ALERA-FI and the workshop help communities act on flood information, before the water rises.

Our journey so far.

From a first conversation with local volunteers to funding for our first implementation.

01Where it started

The seed of ALERA-FI

It began with conversations with the Jaga Balai Majalaya volunteer team about the pain points they face in flood preparedness and in getting timely flood information.

Building AlirCita, step by step.

Follow the river from kickoff to our first workshop in Majalaya and beyond.

    ALERA-FI development

Begin developing the integrated flood-monitoring platform that will support the AlirCita program.

  3. November 2026, week 4Up next

    ALERA-FI goes live

Launch the first production version of ALERA-FI and prepare the platform for the first program implementation.

  4. January 2027, week 1

    First workshop in Majalaya

Conduct the first Flood Preparedness Workshop in Majalaya, combining flood preparedness knowledge with hands-on flood monitoring.

  5. January 2027, week 4

    Evaluation and improvement

Gather feedback and lessons from the first implementation to improve both ALERA-FI and the workshop.

  6. Beyond

    Explore expansion

Explore opportunities to adapt the AlirCita model for more flood-prone communities along the Citarum River.

Starting in Majalaya. Growing along the Citarum.

We envision flood-prone communities where local people have the knowledge, information, and tools to better understand changing flood conditions and support their communities.

Majalaya is the starting point for AlirCita's first implementation. From there, we aim to learn, improve, and build an approach that can be adapted for more communities along the Citarum River.

Help us turn the vision into community action.

AlirCita is in development. As we work toward our first implementation, we welcome partners and supporters who can help build, test, and strengthen the initiative.
